World Aquatics has introduced new Water Polo rules, effective from 1 July 2025 for English clubs.
Key updates include a standardized 25m pitch for all matches and revised team structures allowing up to 14 players. Field players can now substitute as goalkeepers under specific conditions. Timeout and restart rules have been adjusted, and possession times streamlined to 28 and 18 seconds. Several fouls and misconduct rules have been clarified, especially around re-entry, goalkeeper conduct, and underwater play.

Swim England East Region wishes to announce the appointment of Stewart Murray as its new Chairman, marking an exciting new chapter for the organization.
With a wealth of aquatic experience spanning many years, Stewart has a passion for the sport and has seen him involved in various roles from club, county, regional and national levels. Stewart’s first involvement in aquatics was 26 years ago, when his children were swimming and he was asked to train as an official, since then he has been a club Chairman, County and Regional President and most recently a regional board member. Many of you will recognize Stewart from poolside, as he is a World aquatics referee but still spends many hours helping at all levels of competitions.
One of Stewart’s first priorities is to finalize and implement the new East Region strategy, focusing on the priorities that have been identified during this process.
The Region would like to thank Ian Mackenzie for his dedicated service as interim Chairman. His steady leadership during a difficult period has been instrumental in maintaining stability and momentum. His contributions have laid a strong foundation for Stewart’s tenure, and we are grateful for his commitment, expertise and continued support.
