East Region Swimmers Compete in Home Nations Events
With all the home nation meets now complete we would like to offer our congratulations to all involved. The statistics are very encouraging with 43 East Region clubs competing across the three events.
The Swim England event was a platform for 29 of our clubs to compete at a National level. With 168 swimmers taking part from the East Region we were certainly well represented. There were 163 final spots secured by East Region swimmers, bringing home an outstanding medal haul of 48 medals.
At the Welsh Nationals we had 29 swimmers across 12 clubs who collectively brought home 11 medals from 32 finals. We would like to offer a special thank you to Paul Wollaston from Chesunt, who looked after six of the competing clubs at the event with swimmers from Chesunt, Hatfield, Hertford, Hitchin, Watford and Team Luton all sitting together. Nationals can be a daunting event for many swimmers and to have clubs working together to support each other at major meets is great to see.
At the Scottish event we had two swimmers make the journey north, both of whom made finals. With the Scottish-based World Championship team using the meet as a final tune up for the Worlds, it was certainly a great experience for our athletes who competed surrounded by Britain’s finest.
The majority of swimmers and clubs will now be enjoying a well earned rest, and we will start looking forward to the 2017-18 season with great excitement. We do have a couple of swimmers who are in their final preparations for the World Juniors Championships which take place in the USA later this month. We wish those athletes the best of luck!
