Congratulations to David Metcalf on selection as a Technical Official for the Paralympics

Congratulations to David Metcalf from Biggleswade SC, who has been selected to be an International Technical Official for the Paris Paralympics.

David first became a swimming official in 1990 and over the years has developed a specialism in Para Swimming.

David, who is the East Region Swimming Officials’ Manager and former Regional President, is no novice to International Para Competitions.  He has also been a Technical Official in the London 2012 Paralympics and the Technical Delegate at many European & World Para competitions, including those held in Madeira, Italy, Chile and Singapore.

David delivers the WPS courses throughout the World and also presents the British Para Swimming CPD for Technical Officials. Although the next course is full, there will be another opportunity in the Autumn, so watch out for more information because this could be your first step to being a WPS official

The Paralympics are in Paris, 28th August to the 7th September 2024, so do watch out for David on poolside.

Regional Open Water Development Day

Last weekend we welcomed over 40 swimmers from across the region to the 2024 Regional Open Water Development Day held in a superb facility at Stanborough Lakes.

With swimmers and coaches from many clubs coming together to learn and develop both their knowledge and passion for Open Water swimming. Swimmers throughout the day engaged and worked on developing their open water skill set. With technical and tactical learning taking place in a classroom setting; and practical implementation of those skills in the lake with training and race simulation taking place through the day.

As a Region we’re committed to encouraging and supporting more involvement with Open Water swimming and thank all the volunteer’s, coach’s, Team Managers and organisers who work hard to provide this opportunity for our swimmers.

If you wish to enter the East Region Open Water Championships, you need to act fast, the closing date for entries is Sunday 16 June!
