Applications to Assist at the Regional Swimming Championships

Applications to Officiate or help at the Regional Long Course Championships at Norwich and Luton are now open. This year, the Region are using the “Swim Meet”  software for applications to officiate at Regional Galas. The software will help the Technical Directors organise the large number of officials needed to run a swimming meet.

World Aquatics (FINA) Rules Updates 2023-2025

The Swim England Swimming Leadership Group have issued the following statement:-

“World Aquatics (FINA) is currently reviewing its technical rules in all disciplines. In respect of swimming, the revised rules, covering the 2023-25 period, were published on 3 January 2023. The British Swimming Swimming Officials Group will shortly circulate details of the new rules, create training materials and determine a suitable date for their implementation.

The new rules should NOT therefore be applied at swimming competitions held in England until the implementation date is determined.

County Age Group Championships should therefore be judged in their entirety under prevailing Swim England Laws, Regulations and Technical Rules of Swimming, WITHOUT reference to revised 2023-25 FINA Technical Rules.”

Once the updates are available from the British Swimming Swimming Officials Group, David Metcalf, the Regional Officials’ Manager will be circulating further information concerning presentations for Technical Officials.

Swimming Official’s Regional Training Opportunities for Stroke and Starter

Following the success of the trail period of virtual delivery of JL2 and JL2S courses during the spring and summer this year, counties within the region have agreed to continue to offer a structured plan of virtual online training for all judge level 2/2S trainees, with planned dates throughout the year within the region. Training will be offered either by MS Teams or Zoom.

Craig Hunter – New FINA TSC Chairperson

On 3 July the FINA Bureau announced the composition of members of its new FINA Technical Committees which are responsible for analysing how continued improvements can be made to aquatic sports.

Congratulations to Craig Hunter (Hatfield SC) on being appointed the Chairperson of the FINA Technical Swimming Committee. Craig is also the Chair of the LEN Technical Swimming Committee.

Open Meet Licensing Criteria – Officials’ Requirements Effective from 11 March 2022

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Swim England facilitated the return to swimming competition by temporarily reducing the total number of technical officials required at each licence level. At the same time, the level of qualification required to perform certain officiating roles at some licence levels was also temporarily relaxed.

This period of relaxed requirements will expire on 10th March 2022, in readiness for the start of the national qualifying window.  From 11 March 2022 the minimum number of technical officials and the required qualifications will revert to the pre-pandemic situation.

Regional Long Course Swimming Championships 2022

Applications are invited from Swim England East Region members who are British Swimming Technical Officials (minimum qualification licensed Judge Level 1) and Poolside Volunteers who would like to assist at the SE East Region Long Course Championships being held in Norwich and Luton.

The competition dates are: –

  • Regional Long Course Championships (Inc. Development Events) – Norwich 2-3 April 2022
  • Regional Long Course Championships – Norwich 30 April to 2nd May 2022
  • Regional Long Course Championships – Luton 6-8 May 2022

UPDATED Swimming Competition – Guidance for Running Safe Events and Training and use of Officials at Licensed Meets.

Swim England have updated the guidance for running safe events in relation to Swimming competitions on 14 December 21.

The guidelines that are intended to mitigate the transmission risk of Covid-19 and safeguard swimmers, coaches, officials, spectators and volunteers as we continue to return safely to competition.

Swim England have also updated the “Return to Competition Training of Technical Officials” until 31 March 2022. and there is an extension to the number and role’s required of officials at licensed meets to 10th March 2022

 

Regional Swimming Official’s General Online Forum

Swim England East Region have hosted the first of three planned Swimming Official’s Online Forums on Tuesday 1 June 2021. The forums were to assist our officials in the return to competition, as there been a considerable break from officiating. Two more forums are planned for Swim England East Region qualified Starters and Referees

The dates are: –

  • Tuesday 8 June 2021 @ 19:30pm Swimming Officials Online Forum for qualified Starters
  • Sunday 13 June 2021 @ 10.30am Swimming Officials Online Forum for qualified Referees (new date)

Regional Swimming Official’s Online Forum – Updated

Swim England East Region will be hosting a series of Swimming Official’s Online Forums at the beginning of June. We would like to assist our officials in the return to competition, we fully realise that there will have been a considerable break from officiating. To this end we have arranged some forums to refresh our knowledge and procedures to act as a confidence booster before our return to poolside.

We are planning on delivering the following forums virtually by Zoom. There is a simple registration procedure for all qualified officials who are currently members of an SE East Region Aquatic club.

The dates are: –

  • Tuesday 1 June 2021 @ 7.30pm Swimming Officials Online Forum for all qualified officials
  • Sunday 13 June 2021 @ 10.30am Swimming Officials Online Forum for qualified Referees (new date)
  • Tuesday 8 June 2021 @ 19:30pm Swimming Officials Online Forum for qualified Starters

If these dates are not convenient, it is our intention to record the forums, which will be available at a later date.

Officiating Opportunities at Regional Swimming Galas 2020

Applications are now available for officiating roles at the Swim England East Region Long Course Championships 2020 in Norwich and Luton. Applications are invited from Licensed BS Swimming Officials – minimum qualification Judge Level 1.

Priority will be given to those SE East Region officials volunteering to do all sessions each day first, before those volunteering for odd sessions.
