Jo-Jo Cranfield

Name: Jo-Jo Cranfield

Club: Rochford & District SC

Coach: Doug Drake

British Swimming Disability World Class Pathway Squad
(Development level)

When did you first start swimming?
I started lessons when I was three, and joined a swimming club when I was 10.  I now train with Rochford & District SC and British Swimming.

What are your achievements so far?
I have over 150 medals from various events, but my main achievements so far are: Bronze medal at the Danish Open in 2007 whilst competing for Great Britain, British Record Holder for the S9 1500m Freestyle Short Course, 2 silver medals for 100m Butterfly at the UK School Games in 2006 & 2007, nine ASA East Region Short Course records.

What has been your best experience so far in swimming?
My first Junior Nationals 2004, it was really exciting. But you cannot beat the feeling you get when you are selected to swim for your Country. I was selected to compete for Great Britain in March 2007 at the Danish Open in Esjberg, Denmark. (I won a Bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly) I have also been selected again in 2008 for the Danish Open.

What are your long term ambitions?
To be on the podium at the London 2012 Paralympics.

What do your schoolfriends think about your swimming?

They are proud of my achievements, and they think I must be mad to get up at 4.50 am for swimming training.

What do you enjoy doing outside swimming?

I like going to the beach, town and meeting up with my friends.  I also enjoy skiing, pictures and seeing the world.

Who are your sporting heroes?

Ian Thorpe.  Always has been and probably always will be.  Michael Phelps because he is hot!

Where is your favourite swimming pool?

Sheffield.  It has a good atmosphere - the water is cold which makes you swim faster!
