Swimmer: Richard Charlesworth

When did you first start swimming?
I learnt at the age of five, my aunt is a swimming teacher so she encouraged me. I learnt at Hemel Hempstead, and joined Hatfield when I was 13.
What has been your best experience so far in swimming?
Winning the 400m and 1500m at National Youth Championships in 2005. Also being chosen to train at the Southport school in Australia. There are 4 swimmers already out there, and 6 of us are going to join them in January.
What are your ambitions for next year?
I have European Short Course in Trieste this December, and then I am aiming to be picked, and then swim well, at European Junior's next year. I also want to settle in Down Under!
What are your long term ambitions?
To win Olympic Gold.
What do your schoolfriends think about your swimming?
They think I'm mad to do all the training, but they are kind of proud of my achievements.
What do you enjoy doing outside swimming?
Watching films, and playing golf, tennis and basketball.
Who are your sporting heroes?
Paul Palmer and David Davies.
Where is your favourite swimming pool?
Borehamwood - we swim County Championships there and I think it is a fast pool with a good atmosphere.
