The first ASA East Region Open Water Championships took place in Norwich on 15th July. Many of the competitors had never taken part in an Open Water competition before, and all acquitted themselves well over the course, at the Whitlingham Outdoor Centre. There were 3k, 1.5k and 800m races, and swimmers ranged from 12 year olds up to the 60+ age group.
The first swimmer home in the Regional Men's 3k Championships was Samuel Heard (UEA City of Norwich SC), in a time of 36:45.36. Tom Freeman (City of Peterborough SC) was second and Thomas Rootsey (Colchester SC) was third. In the Women's 3k race, Rebecca Harris and Chloe Harris (both St Felix School) were the top two finishers from the Region, with Teresa Walsh (RAF Swim Team) in third.
The Team competition was won by UEA City of Norwich SC (Samuel Heard, Jenny Mayne and Josh Page). Mildenhall SC were second and Hitchin SC were third. Full Results of each event and age group are available in the Results section of the Open Water pages of the website.
