The first East Region Water Polo Regional Training Centre starts this Sunday at Bedford Modern School, following a successful trial on 23rd September. Nearly 40 young athletes travelled from as far afield as Elstree, Cambridge and Thetford to take part in a selection & training session led by Tim Whitwham (RTC head coach) and Sue Langston (British Water Polo RTC Coordinator).
All the successful triallists have been invited to train at the RTC for Term 1 starting on Sunday 7th October. The 95/96 age group sessions are at 4pm-5pm, followed by the 93/94 age group sessions at 5pm-6:30pm.
The 93/94 age group will also take part in the National RTC Winter Competitions. These will be held at Walsall Gala Baths on Saturday 15th December (Girls Competition) and Sunday 16th December (Boys Competition).
RTC's are a key part of British Water Polo’s player pathway. This aims to enable every player to start, stay and succeed in water polo, allowing them to reach their full potential. Coaches use researched and high-quality methods to train the appropriate skills and abilities for the age and stage of the player. Talented athletes can progress through the RTC's to the Junior High Performance Centre located at Grantham Academy, and then to the senior centre in Manchester and ultimately the GB squad.
