The Officials Training Programme has been launched because British Swimming has been tasked with identifying potential officials, for recommendation to FINA and the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG), that would be interested in working at the 2012 Olympic Games as a National Technical Official.
The programme is about providing officials the opportunity to express their interest in officiating at the Olympic and Paralympic Games and therefore the opportunity for British Swimming to ensure that they have the correct experience to apply. The identified disciplines are Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Diving.
Synchronised Swimming:
LOCOG are looking for Deck Officials and Recorders in Synchronised Swimming and have provided guidance that the individuals may be current Judges who wish to take up this opportunity in addition to those who are already an active volunteer in these roles. Applicants will need to possess the relevant qualification and have significant event experience at the point of recommendation to LOCOG and FINA.
LOCOG and FINA require 5 table officials (mix of deck officials and recorders) to be available for:
- Recruitment and Selection Workshops
- Training Courses
- Synchronised Swimming Test Event
- Olympic Games (period of attendance TBD but could be up to 3 weeks between the 23rd July to 12th August 2012).
Water Polo:
LOCOG are looking for Table Officials for Water Polo and have provided guidance that the individuals may be competent referees or exceptional current table officials. Applicants will need to possess the relevant qualification and have significant event experience at the point of recommendation to LOCOG and FINA.
LOCOG require 18 table officials to be available for:
- Recruitment and Selection Workshops
- Training Courses
- Water Polo Test Event in May 2012
- Olympic Games (period of attendance TBD but could be up to 3 weeks between the 23rd July to 12th August 2012)
Diving:
LOCOG are looking for Recorders and Table Officials in Diving and have provided guidance that the individuals may be current Judges who wish to take up this opportunity in addition to those who are already an active volunteer in the roles. Applicants will need to possess the relevant qualification and have significant event experience at the point of recommendation to LOCOG and FINA.
LOCOG require a total of 18 recorders and table officials to be available for:
- Recruitment and Selection Workshops
- Training Courses
- Diving Test Event
- Olympic Games (period of attendance TBD but could be up to 3 weeks between the 23rd July to 12th August 2012)
British Swimming do not have any decision making status within this recruitment process but through a new British Swimming Officials Training Programme are offering support, guidance and training to any officials that have the required skill set for the positions available in order to support their application.
