The Bedford Modern School girls' team won the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) title for the first time on 14th June when they won the Junior Girls (11-13 years) Water Polo Championship. They beat Alleyn's School 9-3 to become the first girls' team from the school to win a national championship in any sport.
Team coach Tim Whitwam said, " The support from the parents was magnificent. Everyone was delighted but none more so than the girls themselves. It will be a moment that the girls will cherish for a very long time."
In the boys' Junior Championship, the team from Haberdasher's Aske's School in Hertfordshire finished in second place, with Ben Kohler emerging as leading goalscorer for the Championship with 12 goals. In a close final, following a series of group games, the Haberdasher's boys lost 3-1 to the team from Manchester Grammar School.
