Six diving volunteers from across the country, including one from Hertfordshire, were invited to the recent FINA Diving World Series in Sheffield in recognition of their contribution to the sport. Melanie Sweetman (West Wilts Diving Club), Derek Beaumont (Beaumont Diving Academy), Dorothy Gibson (City of Newcastle upon Tyne Swimming Club) and Sydney Boothroyd (Borough of Kirklees) had the opportunity to see some of the world’s best divers with VIP access.
The invite to the FINA Diving World Series is part of a new ASA initiative to recognise and reward volunteers for their hard work and commitment across the ASA disciplines.
Volunteers in water polo attended the LEN European Nations Trophy in Manchester earlier in the year and national Aquaforce Award winners will be invited to the World Short Course Championships, also in Manchester, next year.
ASA Volunteer Coordinator Yvette Heywood recognises the importance of giving back to volunteers.
“Without our volunteers there would be no sport so it’s important to make them feel valued and appreciated,” she said.
“At the ASA we’re working hard to try and recognise as many volunteers as possible for the work they do to ensure the continuation of events and clubs across all disciplines.”
