More Gold for East Swimmers at European Juniors
03 Aug 2008 17:09

East Region swimmers Chris Walker-Hebborn and Anne Bochmann have secured more gold medals for Great Britain at the European Junior Swimming Championships.

Walker-Hebborn broke the British Age Group record on his way to victory in the boys 200m Backstroke.

The teamipswich swimmer set a new PB and new British age group record in the 100m Backstroke event earlier in the week and looked confident to continue his strong form in the 200m event.

He touched in second place at 50m but pulled it back to turn in the lead at the100m mark and remained in control of the race until he touched with a time of 1:59.61 to take his third gold medal of the competition.

Walker-Hebborn finished two seconds ahead of Gabor Balog (Hungary) who won silver in 2:01.01 while the bronze was taken by Eric Ress (France) in 2:01.43.

The second medal of the day was won in the girls 4x200m Freestyle relay. The girls, Rebecca Turner, Lucy Worrall, Alex Hooper and Anne Bochmann, swam an excellent race on their way to the gold medal.

Turner (City of Sheffield) got the team off to an impressive start and Worrall (Stockport Metro) and Hooper (City of Birmingham) kept the girls in contention of gold but Bochmann’s (UEA City of Norwich) final leg secured the victory for the Brits.

Bochmann swam her lap in a time of 2:01.03 which was the fastest time for any swimmer in the race to give the girls the top spot with a time of 8:08.82.

The Brits finished four seconds ahead of France who took the silver in a time of 8:12.15 and Germany won bronze in 8:16.05.
