Natalie Jones from Colchester won bronze in the SM6 200m Individual Medley in the first day of action in the Water Cube in Beijing, but expressed her disappointment at not defending the title she won in Athens four years ago.
“I am obviously disappointed,” Jones said. “This is my main event and I missed out on gold and lost my world record. But I will be back. I want to win it back at the London Paralympics.”
Jones recorded a time of 3:15.20 in the final. She also competed in the S6 100m Freestyle, finishing fifth in a personal best time of 1:21.53.
Paralympic debutant Lauren Steadman from Huntingdon was competing in the S9 100m Freestyle, and finished fourth in her heat in a time of 1:08.46.
