City of Peterborough Swimming Club has achieved swim21 accreditation, and in an event held in the Peterborough Athletic pavilion, ASA East Region President Mike Rayner presented the Club’s Chairman Dave Cook with the swim21 accreditation certificate. Members of Peterborough City Council and DC Leisure Ltd as well as members of the club committee and the club captains attended the event.
Club Administrator Roger Adams opened the proceedings by giving a witty resume of the process that the club had gone through in order to achieve swim21 status. In particular he thanked Peterborough City Council for their continued support of the club and also the staff of DC Leisure Ltd who manage the pool and work closely with the committee to ensure the high standards required by swim21 are maintained.
In making the presentation Mike Rayner described how the club had embarked on a five-year journey to achieve swim21 status, for which they are recognised at Competitive Development level. City of Peterborough are the first swimming club in Cambridgeshire to be awarded swim21 at this level. Mike concluded by saying that the presentation was not the end of the process but merely a start of ensuring that the standards set down in the submission were regularly reviewed, amended and updated when necessary.
In his acceptance speech Chairman Dave Cook added his thanks to those already made by Mike and Roger. Dave made presentations to the Head Coach Ben Negus and to members of the committee that had been instrumental in putting together the portfolio of evidence required. Dave also paid special tribute to Rebecca Gilbertson of Living Sport who played a pivotal role in securing the award for the club by overseeing the whole process and directing all the member’s efforts in the right direction.
The club will be displaying their certificate of achievement in the foyer area of the Regional Swimming Pool which is the home of the City Of Peterborough swim squads.
