A full-strength Flitwick Dolphins team travelled to Dunstable in May determined to regain the Gareth Jeans Trophy that they lost to Kettering last year. As well as Kettering and the hosts, Dunstable, they faced teams from Wellingborough and Luton, but came through to a great win. The Flitwick Swimmers won 24 of the 49 events, but Kettering were solid throughout and it was nip and tuck until Flitwick pulled away in the last few events to run out 10-point winners.
There were wins in individual events for Leah Neary , Aran Chamberlain-Clark, Sofia Aatkar, David Allen, Tom Winder, Simon Weighell, Amy Foley, Chris Murphy, Isabelle Martin and Rhianydd Jones. Tom Winder set a new club record for 14-year-old boys 50m butterfly.
Flitwick were even more dominant in the relays, with double wins for the 13 year and under girls team of Bethany Francis, Sofia Aatkar, Georgina Halford and Leah Neary, the boys 13 year and under team of David Allen, Colin Weighell, Aran Chamberlain-Clark and Hayden Davies, the ladies open team of Rhianydd Jones, Louise Simmons, Hannah Scotchford and Kelly Brinkler and the 15 year and under boys team of Carl Halford, Simon Weighell, Tom Winder and Toby Willson. Clara Neary, Amy Foley, Victoria Abbott and Ronnie Curr-Partridge won the girls 11 and under medley relay, while Kieran Hagger, Harry Willson, George Borthwick and Chris Murphy won the boys 11 and under freestyle relay.
Coach Diane Brinkler will be greatly encouraged for the Speedo League season later in the year while Carl Halford and Claire Allen were delighted to lift a trophy on their first outing as newly elected team captains.
