The Hertfordshire ASA County Championships saw three weekends of great competition amongst the best swimmers in Hertfordshire. David Godridge of Watford SC was in blistering form as he finished the Championships with 17 medals (15 of which were gold) and 8 Hertfordshire County Records. 14 year old David won the BAGCAT Trophy for his age group. The 9 year old trophy was won by Charles Oliver (Hatfield SC), Ben Purcell (Hatfield SC) won the 10 year old boys, Liam Doonan (Hatfield SC) won the 11 year old’s category, Yaron Ash (Hertsmere Flyers SC) won the 12 year old boys and Ricky Jones (Hatfield SC) won the 13 year old boys category.
The girls BAGCAT categories were won by: Georgina Pryor (Bishop’s Stortford SC) in the 9 years, Alice Hewson (Berkhamstead Barracudas SC) in the 10 years, Christie Bays (Stevenage SC) in the 11 years, Charlotte Reid (Hitchin SC) in the 12 years and Flora Hanson (Harpenden SC) in the 13 years.
In the Championship events there were good wins for Hatfield swimmers Rachael George in the 50m free, 100m free, 200m free, 400m free and 50 m butterfly, James Allchorne in the 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and 400m IM, Katie Ambridge in the 100m butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200m IM and John Sargent in the 50m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 1500m freestyle.
In the Youth races, Lucy Charles of Hoddesdon SC had a good Championships, remaining unbeaten in the events she swam in the 14 year old girls age group.
