Great Performance at British Champs

British Summer Championships came to a close Sunday evening after six days of fierce competition at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. The East Region was well represented with 22 clubs and 116 swimmers competing at the event. Of these 22 clubs, 18 placed swimmers in finals, which is an outstanding achievement. From those finalists the medal total was 10 golds, 6 silvers and 23 bronzes.

Huge congratulations also goes to Jessica-Jane Applegate and her coach at City of Norwich SC, Alex Pinniger, for an outstanding performance in the S14 100m Butterfly. Her swim broke the Wold Record with a time of 1:04:56, resulting in 1137 FINA points. It also helped Jessica earn her place on the GB Para team for the Worlds in Mexico later this year.

Thank you to all the volunteers that went up to help deliver the event. It was great to see so many people from the East Region giving up their time, assisting in a variety of roles.

Still to come we have the Open Water events, and subsequently both the English and Welsh home nation meets. We offer our congratulations to the athletes, coaches and clubs for their performances over the last week in Sheffield, and we wish the best of luck to everyone competing in both the Open Water and remaining home nation events.
