East Region Success at Para World Series, Berlin

Members of the East Region enjoyed success at the fifth and final World Para Swimming World Series event held in Berlin, Germany between 3 - 9 July 2017.  The Great Britain team won the overall World Para Swimming World series title, after excellent performances of swimmers in the series. 

 

Swimmers from our region participating for GB in Berlin were:-

  • Jessica-Jane Applegate - UEA City of Norwich  
  • Jordan Catchpole - UEA City of Norwich  
  • Louise Fiddes - Hatfield
  • Danielle Hartin - Basildon & Phoenix 
  • Grace Harvey -  Hoddesdon
  • Jason Simmons - City of Peterborough

Throughout the four day competition, 35 World records and 27 Regional (Continental) records were broken.  Jessica-Jane Applegate was in record breaking form, breaking 4 world records.  Jordan Catchpole won the overall rankings for the World Para Swimming World series Junior male swimmer.

Our Swimming Officials’ Manager David Metcalf was in attendance as the Technical Delegate on behalf of World Para Swimming.  Jonathan Bell (Alan March Ltd) was on hand commentating on the live stream.  Jonathan, as many of you will know, commentates at our regional swimming galas at Luton and Norwich (See photo, above:  Left to right, Christian the German announcer with David and Jonathan).  Alex Pinniger (UEA City of Norwich) was part of the GB coaching staff at the competition.
